Here’s something magic in the recording of Ralph Stanley when he sings Man of Constant Sorrow in the iconic version recorded in the 40’s.
Most people know the song from the ‘O Brother Where Art Thou’ soundtrack sung by George Clooney in the movie. Dan Tyminski is the lucky musician who got the session to record Clooney’s part and he’s never had to worry about money again.
In the level 3 course, I do both versions.
Stanley’s Vocal which works great for a sharp pucker style of playing and for the Tyminski version I transcribed Jerry Douglas wonderfully phrased dobro solo for Bb harp.
In my latest YouTube vid I give you a sample of both these parts.
Enjoy! Ed Hopwood
