Updates to the SPAH 2022 Convention

In addition to the SPAH convention news that we reported back in April.

This is the most recent news on the convention taken from the latest SPAH newsletter;

Dear SPAH Members,

We have updates on the upcoming SPAH Convention, August 9-13, 2022, the 59th, to be held at the Hyatt Regency Tulsa Downtown.  We hope you will join us in Tulsa to enjoy the wonderful music, seminars, and camaraderie that is the signature of our harmonica community – all with your safety in mind.

 Here are the details you need to know:

• Registration is open, and early-bird prices and discounts continue until June 30. So, if you are coming, now is the time to register
•   The SPAH discount for the hotel is available until July 15. After that, rooms will be at standard Hyatt rates, subject to availability, so please book now! Click here to book your room at the SPAH rate. There are still rooms available at the SPAH rate
• Click here to register for the Convention and Blues Blowoff, and remember to login first to obtain your membership discount. You can also join or renew your membership at the same time, to save money and continue the benefits of your SPAH membership
• Registration must be completed by July 24 – no onsite registration in 2022
• Day tickets to attend in person are now on sale on the registration page for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
• If you are unable to attend in person, registration to attend online will open soon. We apologize for the delay. Prices for attending online are at a discount to in-person attendance, and you are welcome to watch the shows and seminars with anyone in your household.

 Online attendance also includes the blues blowoff in one online package. Tickets will be available on our new Web site store, available soon.

Due to adverse conditions, the Tulsa club has decided to cancel the city tour bus this year, and will instead offer self-guided tour instructions for you and your friends and family to visit some of the amazing music sites in the city. Gather your friends, maybe a taxi, and head out to see the sites! Details will be provided at the Convention hotel.

Here is a partial list of fabulous Convention performers: the RJ Mischo Blues Blowoff, Rachelle Plas, Howard Levy, Robert Bonfiglio, Konstantin Kolesnichenko (video from Ukraine), Johnny Sansone, Steve Watne, Gerhard Muller Band (video from Germany), Harmonica Variety Showcase hosted by Mike Runyan, The Michael Rubin Variety Show, The Blue Note Harmonica Quartet, Ronnie Shellist (video from the USA), Dustin Arbuckle, members of the Route 66 Harmonica Club, and our wonderful Youth Scholars participating from across the globe. 

There will also be several other world-class performers for you to meet & enjoy during your stay in Tulsa!

The Teach-in will run daily Thursday-Saturday as usual, and the lobby stage will be open for the Jazz Jam, and daily open mic sessions, and there will be over 25 excellent seminars during the week. Opening ceremonies will start during registration on Tuesday afternoon. Our daily vendor hall will be well staffed, featuring your favorite products and product experts.

In addition to the Saturday evening banquet included with your full registration, we will host a complimentary breakfast for all registrants on Saturday morning to say “thank you” for coming. 
 
The SPAH board and staff are Tulsa-bound. We hope you will be too. Don’t delay. But if you can’t come, please register to watch online on YouTube. We also expect to have a Zoom lounge where you can visit with friends online and say “hi” to those attending the convention.

And, of course, many people come to be with their harmonica community and friends, for the first time since 2019. Let’s kick off the run up to our 60th year by getting together safely and have some fun in Tulsa!
