Outreach Forum 20th March 2022
Here is a video of our first Outreach Forum, which took place on Sunday morning 20th March 2022 and was hosted by Richard Taylor and Laina Freeman from HarmonicaUK's new Outreach department. The content includes personal accounts of our organisation's important and exciting work in the community at large.
Richard opened with a review of HarmonicaUK's Harmonica in Prisons project. He was followed by Neil Cunningham of Southwark Fostering, who gave great insight into the benefits of harmonica music for children in care and HarmonicaUK's recent involvement with harmonica workshops at the annual Peckham Festival in South London.
Chris Startup of Project Sounds completed our presentations with a compelling review of his Harmonica For Lung Health project. To close, Sam Spranger gave an excellent account of his role as an HarmonicaUK Ambassador and the ways in which his work mirrors HarmonicaUK's Outreach projects.
A total of twenty two visitors attended the Forum, including HarmonicaUK members and Project Sounds students. Our presentations gave clear and exciting examples of ways in which harmonica playing and learning, supported by HarmonicaUK, is already benefitting the UK's community at large. We aim to follow up this inaugural Forum with further meetings through the year, as well as editorial content in Harmonica World magazine.
